Course Developer

Research and gather training materials for a university course on technology in developing countries. Maintain and update the course website; upload documents and post announcements on Sakai; locate relevant materials, secure permissions to reproduce and republish websites on our digital library; interact with international participants; and collect and store communications and granted permissions in a database. Must have experience with digital media. Ability to work independently, attention to details, and timeliness is critical.

Work with the eGranary Digital Library, a unique program that provides information access to underserved populations around the world. Identify pertinent Web sites and other digital resources, seek permissions from authors to distribute copies, catalog materials, organize resources into user-specific portals, and work with volunteer content collaborators around the world. Create new modules and custom open source software in Java for a digital library used in developing countries. Must have familiarity with Java programming and the Internet. Assist with managing an international service program. Help with volunteer recruitment and coordination, establishment of services, development of relationships with government agencies and partner organizations, assist with hiring and supervising staff and other duties related to office management. Research/review the state of North Carolina prison’s library materials and accessibility. Find important or notable programs that could be utilized or are already being used in these prisons. Design and maintain databases in MySQL. Create/manage web interfaces and PHP. Must have experience with setting up relational databases and programming forms and reports. Web database designs experience a plus.
