Openstax was started in 2011 by Rice University and using Connexion to make more affordable textbooks. Their goal is to provide textbooks to 10,000,000 students. They are promoting the open content concept to faculty and want other universities to use them. All books are free unless students want to print, where it is the amount that it takes to print the book.

There are currently 8 books, such as sociology and biology, all peer-edited and reviewed with plans to make more in the future. New ones are added as they are finished and the site lists those as “coming soon.” Overall, the books are good and easy to find and use.
